Did my bachelor trip last year, Memorial Day weekend, to Grand Isle
We fished about 400 yds down to the left from the first public beach as soon as you come on to the island. Just left if that third jetty.
Limited out Saturday and Sunday morning. Was the best two days of fishing if my entire life.

you dont need a boat or a guide that time of year if the weather is good.

But we had never tried GI before. Honestly the plan was to go to Elmers Island, but it was so good we never. Perfect combination of conditions and crew to pull off an absolute smack down. Kickin Chicken downsouth on a 1/4 oz jig head was deadly
But OP, if y’all don’t fish often I’d definitely look into getting a guide for one of the days and trying your hand and wade fishing another. Worst thing that happens is you spend zero dollars to stand in the water

And if the weather is not good, neither a boat or a guide will be of much help.
