ZZ Top comes to mind.
See, in my opinion, I never really considered ZZ Top to be a Southern Rock band. I’ve always thought of them as Texas Blues rock, and then they went into more pop rock territory in the 80’s, but they always kept that blues influence going at one level or another. They’re similar in certain ways to Skynyrd, and the fan bases are very entwined I think (I’m a big fan of both).

Exact term that came to my mind when I saw Whiskey Throttle’s post.
The answer to the OP is Skynyrd for sure.
ETA: I think a really solid debate could be held about who is #2. If we’re saying ABB not included based on the “jam band” aspect, there would be some other great candidates, namely Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot and The Outlaws. I love all three but would have to go with Molly Hatchet.

All of this. and Amazing Rhythm Aces was the perfect Southern rock band, they just couldn't stay together long enough.
