Do you understand that not all jobs are meant to support someone? Minimum wage jobs like burger flippers or working at a snowball stand are supposed to be for high school kids to earn a little money. It's for them to learn the concept of work and earn money to put gas in their car. It's not meant to cover their entire cost of living alone in an apartment. It's for kids living at home with their parents.
If you want to move out, get your own place, pay all your bills, you need a "big boy job" with some type of skills.
I absolutely understand that all jobs aren't supposed to support someone. That is the flip side of why I say minimum wages are an idiotic idea...it should be a living wage, based on the geographic location AND the individual employee. If you can man your burger stand make a go of it with high school kids good for you....do it, pay them as little as they will work for. If, on the other hand, your business model includes a multi million dollar free standing location on a piece of prime commercial real estate that is open from 5 in the morning until midnight, 7 days a week, you gonna have a hard time manning that location with high school kids all of the time. Depending on who you hire your costs would fluctuate wildly...it would take some MANAGING instead of reliance on the taxpayer and the muscle of the state to make a go of such an enterprise. Your reward would be knowing that you did indeed produce something of value with no help and based solely on your smarts and ability. Small change though compared to your reward being a huge pile of money collected from customers who paid for your product and then also paid for your employees cost of production out of their wallet. The cost of a burger ONLY varies by the cost of raw materials and labor. Labor is not a commodity, it is a human life, no matter how low down and dirty that human is...their needs are going to be met one of three ways, the best of which is labor for all concerned.

There should be no legislated wage, period.
Don't cry about free market capitalism in an over regulated economy.

I agree to do away with the minimum wage. It should be based on the value of the job. Living wage is liberal bullshite. If you can't make a living at McDonald's then maybe you better get some training for another job or get another part time job.

Wrong. You don't have to pay a living wage. Besides high school kids, the burger stand can be manned by people who just want a second job/side hustle, people supported by someone else (a wife who's husband brings home the bacon), etc.
We do not need to force these companies to pay a wage that allows a person with zero skills to live completely independently.
