Last Summer GameStop issued a 4 for 1 split dividend. Shares went from about 75mil to 305 mil.
The gotcha in the whole dividend was that the DTCC issued many shares as a regular split not a dividend. GameStop gave ComputerShare the correct number of shares. CS distributed it to those of us directly holding, then gave the rest to the DTCC to distribute. This is were the DTCC committed International Securities Fraud. They gave out the shares to select brokers and told the rest to handle it as a regular split. Why? Because there are so many naked short shares. That is what will eventually cause a massive squeeze, unless the government changes the rules. That is sadly very possible.
