Was Arkansas' friday night starter this year until this past weekend they brought him out the bullpen on Friday for 3 innings and again on Sunday for another relief appearance. Did he permanently get moved to the pen/closer type role?

Interesting if thats whats going on because he had been really good in that starter role.

I'm not sure, but my head cannon is DVH is only allowed one good pitcher at a time so anyone who is good has to basically be Kevin Kopps'd.

With the injuries to their other pitchers they felt they'd be better off using him in multiple games a weekend.

So in response to injuries to some of their best pitchers, they put their best remaining pitcher in a more injury prone role.

They hadn't gotten anything worth a damn from LH bullpen arms, either.

I still wouldn't be shocked to see Hagen start against us this weekend.

That's not surprising given that he basically has turned into Augie in the last few seasons, pitching relievers for tons of innings in the post-season.

Why? If he’s in the role they used him in this weekend then we could see him two days not just one. Especially since LSU doesn’t hit LHP at times.

Hollan went 6.0 IP only giving up 2 R. McEntire went 6.0 IP only giving up 3 R. Adcock went 6.0 IP allowing no R. Because of the transition Smith got to pitch 3.0 IP on Fri and 0.2 IP Sun.

The only way to ensure that we, a team that has struggled to hit LHP, face him in a meaningful spot would be to start him. Otherwise, they risk having their best pitcher just sitting over there.

I'm not saying they will make that decision, but I wouldn't be surprised. You're not going to beat LSU with a bunch of RH pitching.

Interestingly enough Arkansas's pitching staff reminds me a bunch of the ole Smoke teams in 2002-2006. They have about 5-6 really good pitchers who will pitch every weekend and then it drops off.

To put it lightly LSU would be wise to work counts again.

He was effective as a starter, but he was throwing way too many pitches and couldn't get deep enough into games. This allows him to impact two games and throw around 40ish pitches on both Friday and Sunday if needed.

Plus if we don't use him it gives us some flexibility to start him on Sunday if we want. But Adcock looked a lot better than most people expected him to yesterday.

If/when Tygart comes back Smith may settle back into a starter role unless the three current starters are just killing it but DVH thinks this is our best option for now.
