6.9 Earthquake Hits Ecuador - My Daughter Okay

I just got a text from my daughter living in Cuenca, Ecuador that a major earthquake just hit Ecuador. She says she and her husband are okay, but like everybody else are staying outdoors anticipating aftershocks.

Prayers sent for no loss of life.

Glad they are okay, but shouldn’t they also go outside?
*I missed the “like” everyone else.

I'd be worried about her just living in Ecuador

Earthquakes seem to hit them pretty hard.

Good to hear she's ok. That's terrifying.

I know nothing about Cuenca, but it has a bunch of old architecture and infrastructure.

I do, but she's almost 60 and hasn't asked for my advice in about 50 years.

What brought her to Ecuador? I'm always curious how people wind up living in unusual places.
Glad she's okay, and hope there aren't any injuries/deaths or too much damage.

Ecuador is a cool place, a little on the slow side, but dirt cheap and they love US expats

Quito has a high temp of 70 degrees every day and a low of 50. It sounds like a pretty cool place to live if you can deal with the altitude.

This is completely accurate. I’ve been twice and would love to retire there. All the ex pats live near the beach towns.

Yeah but it's still South America

Her husband retired and she can work from home even in Ecuador - they feel their money will go further there than back in the US.

I had a grandfather older than him that used to send out emails daily.
