It is better now. It used to be that they'd almost make sure a team ( not named UNC) didn't get a home court advantage.
With this, it led to poorer attendance.
Imagine right now if the Birmingham games didn't have Alabama (or Auburn) and their games played at the same time Birmingham was hosting say a Texas - Penn State game.

I’m gonna need a fan of a team that’s been past the sweet 16 more than one time to chime in.
Alabama would be playing in Birmingham under the old format so this point is moot.
