When the elected officials can (unconstitutionally) take money from one segment of the electorate and give it to other people - whether it be in the form of entitlements or corporate handouts - that becomes the only criteria that a majority of the electorate cares about. Get rid of the ability of the government to hand out money and a majority of your governmental problems disappear.
