Does every Vet start filing for disability immediately after discharge?

Typically yes. I'll retire this summer after 24 yrs and will start drawing disability immediately. I'm on the hook for at least 90% based on a med board I barely beat 4 yrs ago.

I left the service in 99 after six years of duty in the Army. I had never heard of VA disability until the last couple of years. It wasn't really a thing back then, but apparently now the military is like going to VA school on how you can max out your benefits.

Like someone else said, I got my GI Bill and a VA loan. Those two things have served me very well in my life.
