Given how warm the past month has been in the gulf south, wondering if that pulls forward plans to aerate, assuming there is no major change in the trend. My grass is pretty well greened up now and I was planning to do my first mow this weekend.

I was originally planning on aerating right before tax day fertilizer but figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to do it now before putting down barricade in the next week or two (with hindsight, wish I could have done that earlier).

Aeration is pretty rough on the grass so usually want to make sure it’s fully out of dormancy and actively growing to enable recovery.

However, you also don’t want to do it after putting down a pre-em. The pre-em window is somewhat passed so not sure how effective it will be this late, although I’m not sure it will hurt anything.

I’d wait until at least after the 2nd cut to do the aeration. This ensures the grass is actively growing and likely fully out of dormancy.

Seems like a reasonable plan - most university extension recommendation is to ideally aerate when the turf is in active growth, but if you feel/see, you are near that point I can’t think of any significant drawback to doing it now.

Makes sense... unfortunately, February weather as well as life events over the past few weeks caused this to get away from me. Figured I might as well put it down anyway and also thought I might as well just aerate before.
