That line right there is the reason I always felt the song was supposed to be by a lying con-man. It's wrong on purpose. I like it for that reason.
He easily could have come up with something closer to right.




didn't Leadbelly write that one?

I think he's from somewhere up around Shreveport area.
He may just be referring to the point where the 3 states meet, and not necessarily the town of Texarkana.

Yes he did, and he knew a bit about grifting and scammin liars
The original recordings of him were made while he was in prison.
He became somewhat of an icon long after he was dead.
I like to think he knew exactly what he was doing when he wrote that line.
