Ask your daughter what she would like. It seems you and her are the only family ex MIL had.

You can take her corpse home and bury her in the yard. You have that right. The hospital will let you

Strange, I was visiting the cemetery today and it occurred to me that it is a terribly inefficient use of space. With cremation, a 16' x 16' cemetery lot could be utilized to serve 64 families. Mark off 24" x 24" squares and drill a 6' deep 10" diameter hole in the center of each. Insert 6' lengths of 8" diameter PVC pipe in each and secure in place with fill. Bottom of pipe fitted with a plug and top with a sealed cap. cap protrudes 3" above ground surface. Surround each pipe with a 10" PVC collar protruding 4" above ground surface. Pour concrete slab flush with top of 10" pipes. and mark off squares for reference. Insert plugs into 10" PVC or install cover plates until needed.

Cremated remains of a 300# person will fit into a 10" length of 6" diameter PVC with caps. Six sets of large remains could be inserted into each 8" x 6' receptacle. Families can be buried together with a common marker plate fitted over their personal cylindrical vault. Kinda wierd but -
