Player of the Week
Jared Wegner, Arkansas
Wegner, began his Razorback career by slashing .545/.643/1.365 (6-for-11) with four extra-base hits, including two home runs, and eight RBI over three games against ranked opponents in the College Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field. Wegner had at least one hit, reached base at least twice and scored at least one run in all three games, leading the Hogs to a pair of wins against ranked Big 12 teams. He was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a triple, home run and five RBI on Sunday vs. No. 8 Oklahoma State.
Pitcher of the Week
Paul Skenes, LSU
Skenes, making his debut in a Tiger uniform, worked six shutout frames on Friday to defeat Western Michigan, allowing just three hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts. The 12 strikeouts represented the most by an LSU pitcher since April 15, 2021 by Landon Marceaux. Skenes' effort also marked the most strikeouts by an LSU pitcher in a season opener since Scott Schultz fanned 12 Lamar batters in 1995 in the Winn-Dixie Showdown at the Louisiana Superdome.
Co-Freshman of the Week
Ike Irish, Auburn
Irish, recorded a hit and a double in all three games, including multiple hits in two of three against Indiana. He legged out an infield single in his first career at-bat and finished his Auburn debut 3-for-5 with two runs, a double and a RBI on Friday. Irish had a two-RBI double in the third inning of game two. He ultimately reached base three times for the second straight game to start his career. He turned in multiple hits for the second time of the weekend by going 2-for-4 and scoring a run in the finale.
Bryce Chance, Mississippi State
Chance, finished the weekend with seven hits, including a home run and a double to go along with seven RBI, four runs scored and a pair of walks to lead the Bulldogs to a series win vs. VMI. Chance made his collegiate debut and on Friday Night and went 3-for-5. He set a career-high 4 RBIs in game two of the weekend set.

Back in the day when the sponsors were local and wholesome, rather than insurance companies and injury lawyers

The Winn-Dixie Showdown in the Superdome was AWESOME. Wish Jay Johnson and crew would resurrect that.

Jared Jones will have something to say about this soon.
