I don’t think I’d call that the macro level. They said the town had like 300 people and they purposefully kept the population low because they seemed to know it isn’t sustainable at a a larger level like that

Yeah this doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. If he’s letting Ellie choose, he’s okay with Tommy still going. Why not have Tommy join them, it doesn’t have to be an either/or scenario and that was Joel’s original plan to begin with.

Because the show isn't that good. It's not the worst show ever made. It just had bad storytelling. The characters make stupid decisions and months of travel are just skipped.

As mentioned in this threads before, they have to go almost all the way across the country but they use one episode to show how they got a truck and then crash it the next episode.
