Any Trad Bow Shooters in here?

I’m not a purist. Hunted with a compound this year. I hunted recurve for years but some shoulder issues curtailed that. Picked up another recurve a few months ago with lower poundage . Sure enjoy shooting it.

Can’t say I’m much of a trad hunter as I’ve only actually hunted with one a few times. I do really enjoy shooting one and pretending I’m going to hunt, though. It’s a fun and frustrating hobby lol

It is indeed. One day I feel like Fred Bear the next I can’t hit squat. I used to shoot everyday and got consistent enough to hunt. Hoping to get back to it next season

I shoot a Martin Mamba with some Canebreak Rattlesnake skin covered limbs. It’s a 60# bow but once you get use to it, it’s nothing been at it for three years. I started bow hunting in 1991. I rather trad hunting than with my compounds. The key is to shoot at least 12 arrows a day every day. Warm up close 5-10yrds then 15, then 20, then out to 25. My furthest shot I will take is 30. You have to build confidence in yourself when shooting trad.

Yep.. Practice, practice . I had an Acadian Woods Treestick that was 60# at 27. I draw almost 29 so it was a beast and a beautiful bow. Too much for my shoulder these days. What arrows and broad heads you use on your set up!

bought a 1969 Ben Pearson recurve on ebay about 20 years ago for something like $45. Haven't messed with it in a while. This thread makes me want to break it out.

You should. Ben Pearson made some good recurves back then. Check out 3 rivers archery for a new string etc. they also have good videos to help you get it set up and what arrows you should shoot out of it.

Used to shoot trad exclusively, got me a caribou with my longbow but never really mastered it and am old and can’t handle the weight anymore. Great fun to shoot traditionally.

I had a Ben Pearson bow that I gave to my oldest brother. I have a Bear Grizzly #45 pounder that is so much fun to play with. I don’t hunt with it.

Just got back into it the last few months. Used to shoot traditional a lot in the 80s and 90s but had been compound only for the last 25 years or so. My son started shooting with the NAS team and though they shoot compound it is all instinctive shooting so I dusted off the old Bear Kodiak hunter and starts shooting with him. Really got into it and ordered a new Bear Super Kodiak and am shooting it now. Didn’t get a chance to sling on at a deer this year and only made a couple hunts with it but am going to make a bigger commitment to hunting traditional next season. Set up a 3D range in the pasture along with the NAS targets and It is WAY more fun shooting traditional archery than a compound for sure.

I shoot trad almost exclusively. Start with a lower poundage bow. I have killed with my Bear Kodak Special that I shoot 3D with and it’s only 40 pounds. Plenty enough to kill a deer. I shoot several different longbows and recurves when hunting. Just work on technique. Shoot 5 to 10 yards at the start to to get good form. Go to The leatherwall” on the net. Learn ALOT from them, good dudes. Have fun and shoot some 3D shoots.

Sirius arrows with 2 blade 315 gr tuffheads. They are single bevel. Arrows weigh in at 800 gr. A piece.
