Only from a few scenes I’ve seen:

Water to wine miracle - “not my hour” was replaced with “not my time.” These are two very different meanings in scripture and they used this change to show Mary as convincing a reluctant Jesus to perform a miracle (yes, although she knew who he was, he had never done a miracle before).

Shows Nicodemus believed in Jesus and Jesus asked him to follow him. Scripture clearly indicates that Nicodemus, at that time, did not believe in Jesus. Nowhere in the Bible did Jesus ask him to follow him. Later scripture indicates he was likely converted at a later time though.

Although these next few could be considered “minor”… why change it and for what purpose?…

Jesus rehearsing the sermon on the mount with Matthew, women leading the group lowering the paralyzed man, and Mary Magdalene portrayed as Jesus’ first disciple.

ETA: a lot of this is added for drama and to “make good TV,” and I get why they do it in most cases. It’s just my personal belief to not watch it. I fellowship with other believers that watch and enjoy the show.

The show is bringing a lot of people back to the scripture and the message. Which is a good thing.

I appreciate seeing the human side of these characters. Minor changes in the word aren’t changing the message to these folks.

I mean...the text is fairly obvious that Jesus was reluctant to intervene at the wedding feast. When the Virgin Mary tells him that they were out of wine, Jesus replied: "Woman, why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come."

That sure sounds like someone who is initially reticent to intercede in the matter.

There are only three instances where Nicodemus shows up in the New Testament:

1. Where he comes to Jesus in secret in John 3 to hear what he has to say about theology.

2. Where he defends Jesus to the other Pharisees in John 7.

3. Where he assists Joseph of Arimathea in laying the body of Jesus in the tomb in John 19.

Nicodemus refusing to follow Jesus, despite knowing he is the Messiah, is dramatic license by the showrunners and shows that, while the path may be obvious to us, we don't always follow it.

Mary Magadalene wasn't portrayed as Jesus's first disciple though. In episode two of the first season, Jesus introduces the Apostle Jude and the Apostle James at the Shabbat supper to Mary.

To be fair on this one, we are basing this on a relatively recent English translation, of a Latin translation, of a Greek translation from Hebrew.

As an English speaker who took Latin in middle school, German in college, and have some Hispanic nieces and nephews, I can tell you: a lot of translations are best guesstimates. Sometimes, a literal word-for-word translation would make no sense. You attempt to convey what the original meant.
