I’m sure it has something to do with the fact that Cooper has a 0.93 ERA and sub-1 WHIP in spring scrimmages. Cooper might throw 3 innings Saturday and give way to Floyd, who knows. Jay and Wes have a plan and we should probably trust them.

A sub 1.00 ERA in the spring against possibly the most stacked lineup in the NCAA may have something to do with that as well.

He was good after a rough first month of the season last year and had a bad regional game against Kennesaw St. He also pitched well in the spring and fall.
From March 19 of last year (game 2 of the A&M series) through the end of the regular season, Cooper allowed 6 ER over 27.1 innings with 4 BBs, 29 H (Opp BA .259) and only 6 XBHs.
In the Spring he pitched 9.2 innings, and gave up just 1 run on 3 hits and had a 0.83 WHIP.
In the Fall he pitched 17.1 innings, giving up 7 ER on 25 hits while striking out 25 and walking just 3.
So in the Fall and Spring combined, he pitched 27 innings, giving up 8 ER (2.67 ERA), giving up 28 hits, while walking 7 and striking out 36.
Call me crazy, but I think having a reliable lefty who can throw long relief and start a game is a pretty good asset to have. We have 5-6 guys who can start a game. I'm sure we'll see a number of those starting on different days leading up to SEC play.
