Do it.
My uncle did it forever. Never seemed to be any kind of hindrance to him. Hunt with what you shoot the best. If that's a crack barrel 20 gauge, use that. Been many a duck killed with single shots and double barrels over the past century.
The bad thing about it is being ok with duck hunting abuse of your double barrel, which tend to be very nice shotguns. I personally don't mind battle marks on fine shotguns, but some people do.

I tripled on pintails last fall and wouldn't have been able to do that w an OU ;)
