I immediately know something is wrong with that response and usually ask a couple more questions. Don't let a brother blow his head off.

I have no problem with that answer. When someone decides to give a me a two minute honest answer to the question is when I regret asking it.

If someone says something like that, you should just respond with "that's great, I'm so happy for you!" Then walk off.

That’s dark brother bear. I always just assume they’re jerking it with a belt around their neck.

Never ask an open ended question like how are you doing?

You may hear shite that you don't want to hear.

you gotta ask the right way
You don't look them in the eye and clearly say with genuine feeling How ARE you?
It's gotta be like hihowyadoin all one word and your tone makes it clear you don't mean it and you just keep talking about whatever you need, no chance to respond

Guess I'll start using my #2 packaged response more.

Officemoron- How you doing?
Me- Fine, you?, good.
Officemoron-......

The three word conversation killer. I answer them with "Fine" follow it up with "You?" (How are they?) and then the all important confirmation they are good before they are able to respond.
