maybe a little factor but players today are bigger, stronger, faster than they have ever been due to development of sports medicine… not just in NBA — a lot of sports ppl are more athletic than ever. Think of the size of linemen/linebackers in NFL in 70s compared to now for example…. Players are as skilled as they’ve ever been as well…

Defense wasnt better. It was actually worse, which is why they had to resort to taking dirty cheapshots.
