Let us just be in fairy tale land and lets say Player X from I guess Spurs, Arsenal, Man City signs huge contract complete with transfer dollars etc and the club just tanks for some reason, ending up relegated.

Is the player obligated to the contract, since he is no longer an EPL player or is the contract with the club itself?

There are usually clauses in the contract that allow the player to leave for a reduced transfer fee. If they stay their wages are reduced by a certain percentage

Ya, a lot of the big time players leave because the team wouldnt be able to pay their salaries with the budgeting of the lower leagues.

It happened to Leeds basically.

They got into debt, had to sell off players, got relegated. Got a point deduction and relegated again.

They went from what, Champions league semi final to 3rd tier English football pretty quick.

I assume most “up-down” clubs invest the PL TV money from when they are up and don’t spend it on short-term expenses like transfer fees, etc.

Raphinha’s move to Barca is a good example:

Had we gone down last year he had a £20 million release clause. We paid Rennes £17.5 million so it would’ve been minimal profit.

Instead we stay up and he moves for £50 million

Yep

But usually they have clauses that reduce the wages in lower divisions or trigger a release clause
