Ain't a blue vs. red thing. It's a freedom thing. Every argument against weed legalization can be made against booze.

Smell a rat when you find someone opposed to weed legalization who isn't also pushing equally as hard for the return of Prohibition.

ETA: I don't use marijuana, and I'm not much of an alcohol-drinker, either.

Conservativism should support less regulation, and more individual freedom.

Most people here are quasi conservative, not actually conservative. The weed trade is a great example of an illegal product that would greatly help the mainstream economy.

I've been smoking weed on and off since 1977. I remember when the price of a lid quadrupled from $30 to $120 in 1981 when Reagan re-declared Nixon's War on Drugs. Not only had the price of weed gone up, but I couldn't even buy bongs at Peaches anymore. As the 80s wore on, I was told that Republicans were the party of liberty, and less government intrusion. That went entirely contrary to my personal experience. All of the Republicans I knew were for the War on Drugs but yet drank.

So when you say smell a rat when I see this hypocrisy, I'd say the Republican party is FULL of rats. I've never known any Republicans who smoked weed until quite recently. This is the main reason I could never get on board with the Republicans because while I supported their talk of less government intrusion, it's their walk of more government intrusion that belies their hypocrisy.

Both parties support more government intrusion. It's the very thing that allows them to maintain power.
