In the VERY early planning stages of a trip for 2024. (Pretty lined out for this year. ). Trying to decide between Thailand or Bali. I’ve done quite a bit of research on Bali but haven’t done my due diligence with Thailand. If you were to choose an 8-12ish day vacation to one of those which would you choose and why ? Would be just me n Mrs jkyle and probably in the month of June. Any feedback or tips appreciated . Thanks in advance

Thailand but probably not for 8-12 days. Maybe fly into Thailand, spend 4-6 there then over to the Philippines and and spend 4-6 there and then fly home from there

While I appreciate the reply that’s kinda what I was thinking. I’d like to spend a day or 2 in Bangkok. Maybe check out some cool temples in some of the surrounding areas. Would also like to make my way down to Phuket and spend a few days there with a ferry over to Phi Phi /Maya Bay mixed in. I feel like I could spend a ton of time making my way around Thailand.

There's also Chiang Mai to the north and Kanchanaburi (Erawan Falls) to the west. You could ferry around to various islands, etc.
Siem Reap (Angkor Wat etc.) is a short flight from Bangkok as well.
Tons to do.

I’ve been to Thailand, would definitely recommend. 13 days and it was still a little rushed. We went to Cambodia as well, I would have liked to spend more time there. We only had like 36 hours, one full day of sightseeing. Also went to Phuket and Chiang Mai.
We had incredible experiences everywhere we went. And you can live like a king for not much money at all.

Can’t speak to Thailand, but we did our honeymoon in Bali and loved it. Spent a little more than two weeks there and went all around the island. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.
I did a whole trip review but I think the photos have since disappeared.

Bali
Went there a few years ago, for a weekend side trip from Singapore. Was OK, white water rafted, had a small villa with own pool, listened to the ceremonial gong each day, did some sightseeing. While I enjoyed it, I feel you need to feel some spiritual connection or something, it was ok and not bad but I did not understand the obsession with it.

Really appreciate the replies. I’m leaning Thailand but wife is leaning Bali. Shes worried we’d be bouncing around too much if we do Thailand which doesn’t reallly bother me. The beaches in Thailand I read blow Bali beaches away. Food in Thailand seems to have the edge as well. Bali def seems like it would be a much more relaxing trip. I doubt I could go wrong either way . Flights would be a little more reasonable to Bangkok but would require some smaller flights during trip to get from one region to the other.

Both are awesome, I’d go back to Bali before Thailand.
But they are 1a, 1b when it comes to my favorite vacations ever

What about Bali did you like better ? Really interested to hear from someone that has been to both.

If I only had 8-12 days with the Mrs. like you mentioned, I would choose Bali.
Both places are truly magical. If there were a simple reason why I’d go to Bali, I’d say that I was able to do a wider variety of things in a shorter amount of days. Sunsets from a mountain top, beach resorts and lush tropical bungalows, incredible waterfalls, great snorkeling, etc. Thailand has all of those things, and they are equally as amazing… it just took me a few trips to Thailand.
I don’t think you would have a bad time in either location, but if it is going to be only you and the Mrs….. go to Bali.

Thanks for the input. Very much appreciated. I could def see how the plane hopping to get around Thailand could be a pain in the arse.

Ya it may not be what you're looking for. However, Bangkok Airways had a good schedule going where they made it pretty convenient. For instance I went Bangkok to Siem Reap, and then Siem Reap - Bangkok - Phuket. They will set the schedule and hold the connection planes to shuttle people around and I gathered others were coming from Chang Mai. Essentially eliminating any awful layovers.
Trusted them over Air Asia.

SE Asia for sure ... Don't sleep on Vietnam or Cambodia if you can squeeze it in.
