Yes. I was thinking more along the lines if there was a contractual agreement in place
Call it a "contract," or call it a "license." I think that the effect is much the same.

Trump seems to be asserting (i) that he owned the copyright on his part of the recording and (ii) that he gave Woodward only a (limited) verbal license for the use of those words.

It will be interesting to see it play out. As more facts are learned in the coming months, I am sure we will be doing more analysis.

It's probably mostly "performative litigation" in the sense that it's supposed to make a political point to relevant publics that he's fighting, that he has the right enemies, etc., and winning would of course be welcome, but not really the main point.
