How is it that your Governor is hamstrung? He couldn’t step in?

This is a state election year. The Democrat running against the current governor is a JBE-style moderate from the northeast part of the state (the most moderate area of the state). He was a popular small town mayor who ran for Public Service Commission. He's been a key figure in getting broadband internet to rural Mississippians, so he is well liked. He also is Elvis' cousin and shares his last name.
Here is his campaign announcement ad: LINK
Tate Reeves is not the most popular Republican in MS. He won a tight GOP Primary last time. No one is primarying him, but there's a poll that only 35% of Mississippians want him to be re-elected.
Entering into the Jackson situation is tough. Jackson has the largest population in the state and as you can imagine, it's heavily Democrat. Jackson is a non-issue because they typically have a sub 20% turnout.
