He is trying to be in a 500 calorie deficit. I just keyed his info into the calculator and it was in-between 2300-2400. So he is right or pretty close.

I believe he is using his activity as an off set and a way to eat more. But his activity numbers are inflated. So he's eating right at his baseline and he's not going to lose anything.

He needs to throw out exercise and not figure it in at all. Still do it and try to be more active, but just consider it a bonus. Figure out a 1900 or so diet and stick to it for a month. Then see how it works.

I thought he was eating under 1800.

OP, you infidelity are not burning as much as you think. I have to run 10 miles to burn 1000 calories and usually only burn about 300-400 during an intense workout (and that may be an overestimation by my apple watch).
