I sometimes get the feeling people just want to set the playoffs based on recruiting rankings, the games on the field be damned. This "best" vs. "most deserving" nonsense is really bad for the sport.
People are being way too reactionary from one blowout
It's stupid but good luck talking any sense into them. Even with an expanded playoffs in the NFL we have had blowouts in the super bowl.
LSU didnt even cross the 50 yard line in the championship after beating Bama in the regular season so i guess they didnt deserve to be in that year either.

I just want to know where the logic used to justify losing games but being granted a mulligan on the basis of being the "best" team begins and ends.
Can a team rest their starters for the first half of a season and lose six games, but because they were #1 in recruiting for four straight years and dominate the back half of the schedule, we ought to let them in? Pretty extreme example, but I kind of feel like this is a fair question to ask of those who advocate for a model where team quality matters more than their resume.
