the issue isnt the historic use of the word, or the pain and burden that it allegedly carries around, etc. the issue is one of power. it has become a point of absolute power that black people wield over white people, without condition - a condition that our leftist friends are happy and eager to propagate.
This can't be said enough.
Political Correctness was the foundation used by the left to attempt to silence political enemies. Period. This is one of many examples of that. This is all about power. If the word was so offensive, it wouldn't be used as much as it is used in pop culture.

Call me a cracker I don't care, I don't let a word have power over me. Those that allow words to bother them are weak. However, this isn't really about a word. It is about being punished differently due to race. That is a problem.

asked if the Marines were shocked to hear him say it, and that it should be equally offensive and shocking to hear in ANY context, be it from a general officer or a rap song, and that it had no place on a Marine base or PT field.
This. The fact that the story became about disciplining an upstanding OIC trying to do the right thing is a sad state of affairs.

our sorry arse commandant fired him for cause anyways, and that was that for a general that very well may have been a four star some day.
And the military brass wonders why recruiting is down. Don't get me wrong, I'm very proud my wife and I served (USAF), but I'm equally glad neither she nor I are active duty any longer. The status quo is untenable and NOT focused on unified warfighting.

This for me, essentially. I think I mentioned earlier itt the last time I had this slur said towards me as a pejorative irl by a non-black person, my immediate reaction was to laugh. It just seemed so ridiculous to me that someone thought that would hold any weight with me, it made me giggle.

Correct. The truth is, most black people are NOT actually bothered by the "N-word." Especially not the younger, social media savvy folk. Most of us have never even heard it uttered in demeaning context by a non-black person without immediate reprisal (in the case of the incident above I described, no less than FIVE other white guys grabbed their friend and damn near beat him up in front of me while I was laughing, apologizing to me the whole time). Some black people just use the word as a sword of Damocles to hold over sociopolitical opponents, or as a trump card to engage in wild "retaliatory" behavior.

Yep! Back in the 60's I was accused of being a racist, merely because I was from Louisiana, by two shipmates. One was from Iowa, the other from Illinois.
The guy from Iowa was in the submarine service along with me but on a different Submarine. He later became very racist.
There was a black shipmate, Ronald Addison, who came aboard the USS Lafayette at about the same time as me. We became close friends. We worked well together on the Sub. One day a shipmate from Ohio approached me and asked "why do you hang out with that N----"? I was. surprised.
Fast forward forty years. On line, I found Ronald Addison, Baltimore, MD. email address, and sent a message. He responded, "I can't think of anyone I would rather have heard from.
Sad we can't judge a person by their character rather than skin color.
Ron was a good shipmate and a good friend.

Whatever happened to that racist idiot 850SaintsGator?

I’d sue lsu based on racial discrimination. Why the difference between how he was treated and how she was treated?
