I was looking through some Nick Saban interviews on YouTube and I found a good one that was done by Cox Sports Television before the season started.
Interesting.

Looked like he was tearing up at the thought of people around here hating him. He brought that on himself.

He def. seems sincere when he talks about LSU. I think it bothers him that people dislike him around here. I don't think many fans realize that coaching is a job. Just like if I worked for Shell and then Exxon came and gave me a better deal, I go to Exxon. It's just a job.

Sure...to coaches it just a job. But when they want fans to give money, get energized behind their program, they fan the flames of something A LOT more deeply held than simply punching a clock at a job. College Football, at it's heart in 2008 is simply a business. But is that the way we fans see it? Is that what makes it better than the NFL? Of course not...it runs much deeper than that.
And every coach in America knows this. If Nick Saban is REALLY naive enough to have assumed that he'd be welcomed back with open arms after choosing to return to the college game at a hated rival within our own division, than he's not nearly the man I thought he was. More likely, he's a smart guy who knows that by trying to blunt the anger and hatred he knows he stirred up here by taking the BAMA job he'll may the task of winning here a little bit easier.

And? You make the assumption that no one here has either heard these stories, or doesn't know someone personally who has had some conversation with Saban about this very topic.
NEWSFLASH: We know your coach better than you do.
Regardless of any of that, Saban is a mercenary. He was never a Spartan...never a Tiger...never a Dolphin and is not a Tider. Yet, while at every stop he did everything he could to tell the fanbases that he was exactly that...right up until he left.
Point of all this is...Nick's a big boy. We hear often that LSU fans need to move on...but I think Saban needs to do a little of that himself. If he's still concerned with what LSU fans think of him, he's an even bigger egomaniac than I once thought.

I didn't assume anything sport. I just thought it was a good article.
BTW, you're an idiot.

Lil' Nickie didn't have to take the Bama job. If he's the coach everybody wants and he can have any job he wants, he could have taken a year off if no other job he wanted was availble at the time. He could have taken that time to spend with his family, get to know another side of life and become a better husband, father and overall person. His "love and respect" for LSU and the people of La. are about as real as that winning lottery ticket I'm holding right now.
When you love and respect someone or something, you don't turn around and stab them/it in the back. You do what you can to have a positive influence, even if it means you have to sacrifice something for it. Had he sat out a year, he could have been reunited with Emmert at Washington. That may well happen anyway.

I feel the same way as Saban. I think he has offended some people with a few remarks though. It wasn't smart saying coonass and diging ditches. However, I am not a coonass and would never dig any ditches so that comment didn't apply to me.
He was great for the LSU program and I am positive the Bama program will be better. Just a word to the wise for you Bama fans, Saban doesn't win championships every year and he has been known to sit on a lead to early.

I think the whole hating Saban is rediculous. He helped big our program to a national powerhouse. In 4 years he won a national championship, something we didn't do the previous 45 years. Would you rather us be a mediocre team with the same coach for 20 years, or have 1 coach for 4 years that gave us a national championship, and paved the way to our 3rd national championship. He is human, he regrets leaving lsu, but he got offered considerably more to coach in the NFL, that ended up not being for him, so he went back to his bread and butter, coaching in college football. And back to the SEC, which is where every coach wants to be. Get over it.

If I were a football coach, I wouldn't mind letting Sexton be my agent. He's made lots of coaches lots of $$$

This is college football. Every year a nobody team comes up and sneaks in the top 10. That coach then gets hired on to a better team. And top 10 teams don't fire their coaches because they didn't win a national championship that year (mostly).
It's like telling a football player to take a year off and you can have your starting job back. You do that, someone else comes in and takes his spot.
I would bet noone would be complaining if Saban took a job at Vanderbilt, and had a losing season.
The envy of success is a dangerous thing.

I was referring to the statements that $aban has made, trying to say that the move to Bama was for his family. YEAH, he got the hell out of Miami, cause the ship was sinking, and so was his "stock"... but to say he did it for the love of his family is crap.
He did it to protect his status as a coach, and he didn't care what that would mean to his history or legacy at LSU. I'm not saying that he even SHOULD have cared about LSU or anything, but he should just quit trying to "make nice" about it.
Posted on 11/7/08 at 1:34 pm to LSUmomma
I really don't think he had a vendetta against LSU and that's why he chose Bama. And his status as a coach is what is providing his family with a living. Like the other guy said, overall, it's a job. If we all had 100 million dollars, noone would work.
He left the sinking ship, and went to the best available option. A school with great history, not doing so great at the present moment, with tremendous potential, in the best conference, and being able to head the ship. I'm sure if LSU was in a bad spot and not in the middle of a contract with Miles, he would have loved to come back to LSU.

The biggest testament to Saban's nature is that he is either surprised by the reaction of LSU fans or his belief that we shouldn't harbor any bad feelings towards him. It confirms that he is a cold, self-absorbed person that is uncaring towards the feelings of those outside of his immediate circle and indifferent at best. Why Bama fans believe that he cares any more about them and will not do the same thing to them in a heartbeat if presented with what he perceives as a better situation for him is beyond me.
