Base out of Flagstaff and you have the Grand Canyon, Meteor Crator, Navaho Canyon, etc. Anyone done this and any advice?
Any further North and weather is a problem. Also, Utah has the keep rally this week every year so that’s a no go.

Do it. Flagstaff is a great base. Also consider:
Walnut Canyon (couple of hours)
Sunset Crater (couple of hours)
Sedona (whole day of hiking, eating, shopping, gawking)
Canyon Diablo/Two Guns (Apache Death Cave, Diablo Canyon, Campground and C-Store ruins...half a day)
Re: Canyon I'd focus on Desert View instead of the Village if you're doing overlooks. If you want to hike in then Bright Angel is most convenient. Shoshone Point will give you a near-private viewpoint as well! Flat easy hike to Shoshone.

Did this a couple years back when the kids were out of school for Mardi Gras (late February.) Family had a great time. Probably most enjoyable vacation we have taken.
Stayed in Flagstaff and kind of made that our base.
Hit Petrified Forest, Grand Canyon and Sedona over multiple days.
Beautiful state with a ton of outdoor activities. Highly recommend.

Drive to Williams, Az (34 miles from Flagstaff) and take the train to the Grand Canyon. Beautiful.

Jerome, Page, Horseshoe Bend are also in play. It will be a great trip. Love that area.

One of my old friends from HS did that last year (mid March)with her family (kids are teenagers) and they had a blast. Said it was one of their favorite trips. They stayed a night in Scottsdale and I got to meet them for dinner (haven’t seen her since HS days just still fb friends).

That’s a great option as well. It will take up a whole day but then you don’t have to drive to GC. If you aren’t hiking into the canyon a few hours at the south rim is more than enough.
Train leaves Williams at like 9 am. It’s a 2 hour ride each way (train only goes like 40 mph). Then you get 3.5 hours at the rim before train takes you back to Williams.
Note….you don’t actually see the GC from the train. There is literally one section where you can see the canyon for like 3 seconds but that is it.
Eta: Williams is a tiny town but their downtown area is kinda cool. It’s right on the old Route 66 if you are into that kind of stuff.

How was the weather? Was it not too cold?
