Last night I told my father-in-law that he is basically an idiot for encouraging boosters

...for our family.

It's true, as men get older, they get stuck in their ways and are stubborn as hell.

Why is this? Even when it comes to health-related issues, he refuses to listen to the counter-arguments/facts and zealously consumes his mainstream news like its the Gospel.

For you older men on here, stop being a creature of habit, and be a creature of cognition and critical thinking.

Not sure what your idea of “older” is. I’m only 58, so you’re probably not talking about me.

But I see the younger folks who are so tuned into pop culture and their television set, as little NPC robots running around.

As for me, never even been tested for the Covid. Never bought into it from the get go.

huge numbers of older men are critical thinkers and refused the clotshots.

I thought we had learned that there were no monolithic demographics by now.

and I dont intend to stop the critical thinking when I get older either

I'm generally talking about retirees - age 65 or older.

Mine was the same a while back.

Now he says the shots don't matter since they won't live much longer anyway.

You forgot "fearful".

Your Father-In-Law is a coward and that's why he's pushing this already disproven bullshite.

I've seen it first hand in supposedly fearless, tough as nails old dudes.

That's a huge part of it. You turn on the radio these days and literally 20-30% of all the commercial breaks are COVID ads brought to you by Pfizer or DHS and they are most assuredly using the fear card.

He's probably listening to his doctor, which is what everyone should do. What counter arguments did you offer him?

That’s unfortunate but predictable. I haven’t tried to talk to my folks about it since the very beginning.

Similar results.

So you're going to risk ruining the relationship with your in laws over your dumb political viewpoints?

You don't sound like a very pragmatic man

Congrats on the divorce

This is it. For the FIL, who probably has multiple comorbidities, getting the shot may be an acceptable trade-off as a health management issue.

The flawed and common human reasoning that follows is usually, “It worked for me, therefore it will work for you.” It’s a survivor’s fallacy.

That's a good counter argument. Is that the counter argument that OP went with?

My personal experience is it's the women who do very little critical thinking.

What? Are we pretending that doctors are still credible and the last two years didn’t happen? It’s no longer an Obama created bureaucracy? Otay
