Not an excuse, but certainly a factor. Also made the "10-win season" less impressive.

I don’t think the 12-game regular season is much of a factor. We were already playing a power 5 OOC opponent most years under the 11-game format. The extra game just added another cupcake.

I think the reality is pretty simple - 2003-2011 was the most successful 9-year stretch in LSU history. In fact, no other team was more successful than LSU (getting to 3 national title games and winning 2) during that period. The closest would be Oklahoma (went to the BCSCG 3 times and lost all of them) and Florida (2 appearances, 2 titles).

Agreed, very impressive time and proud to be a Tiger. They went 97-22 in that stretch. Including 9 losses in 2008 and 2009 which makes the rest of the years at 13 losses even more impressive.
