My Dad just called me so I could hear the band practice. They sound great! I guess they are playing a tribute for Veteran's Day. I wish I could be there for the game. All you lucky fans enjoy it! Beat Bama! And thanks TigerPawPaw!

Yes, but how many of us actually send stuff overseas to a random stranger in uniform?
Let's get it done - contact someone there. It isn't hard. Supporting the troops should mean actual support.

That's a great idea. How do I select a random soldier to send something to?

I have participated in sending requested items to the soliders. The company I worked for before moving out of state sent over 500 boxes filled with cards, personal care items, candy, books and many other items to our soliders overseas. I am now in the process of finding an organization to continue this much needed support.

Oh my gosh...thank you so much for replying. That really means a lot to us all. My husband has actually been in Iraq since November 6th of last year. So, of course that makes today the one year mark. Ironic this thread happened today! He should be home in January. Anyway, we are stationed here at Fort Hood. (about 8 hours from home in BR) He is with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. Wonderful and supportive people have sent anything from simple thank you cards to boxes of goodies. Many of our soldiers in our squadron are single. (approx. 455)When they return in January, they come home to empty barracks. I am a volunteer for my husband's unit, and we are not supposed to solicit. However, if anyone wants to maybe send a thank you card, etc. I would be more than happy to give you my email. If you just want information, I will be more than happy to point you in the right direction to start. Again, you just don't know how much it means for my fellow TIGER FANS to respond! Seriously, you guys are GREAT!!!!!

Okay Armywife. What needs to be done to send those cards etc. to the 3rd ACR? I understand a little about the stress and all the things military families go through, because my brother was in the Air Force.
I am doing research on the organizations that help the soliders, but have not decided what to do. Let me know. I will check this thread again in a little while and tomorrow.

Far from home tiger: Awesome... tiffany.griffith@us.army.mil You have truly made my day. I have volunteered to write the 455 individual cards to our single soldiers by December 1st. A few companies and people have offered to help us with a snack, etc. for their barracks room upon their arrival on post. I am going to stick a handwritten card in each bag for them. I just write a few at night since I have a 2 year old!! Anything at all that you would like to do is so wonderful. If you decide to go with another unit, I can email you some places to start. I usually check the rant and my email a few times daily. We appreciate it!

Tiger Paw Paw is ready for his little linebacker to come home for the hoildays. Got your message about all of the "bammers" coming out of the woodwork around Fort Hood like roaches. Lets hope the "Tigers turn on the lights" Saturday and they scatter.
