Bjorn,

Keep clinging to that academic Dream

I know this board is populated by pro sports fans whose minds are mottled by talk of salary caps, and free agency and franchise players, etc. That's fine. But it's OK for there to be an alternative.

Life is better when there are different plans, systems and ideas. College sports are popular because they are not the professional leagues.

When the idea that a full scholarship, with all the bells and whistles that includes, was just a meager offering barely worth being considered compensation is where this whole thing went off the rails.

When people who consider academic pursuits and college degrees are thought to be naive, we know things are fricked.

You keep clinging to your pro sports snore-fest.

I will watch college sports until the thin-line that currently connects it to the university is finally severed, then I won't.

What is really naive is the idea that college sports fandom will continue when the university is out of the picture and it's just pure professional sports.

It won't.

No professional minor league system has ever succeeded in the United States without heavy subsidies from the parent league. College sports is popular because people feel a connection with their alma mater or state.

College scholarships kept the worth they always had, but players wanted some of the TV money they thought they helped to generate

A coach’s career can last 50-plus years. The average coaching tenure at a school is around 5 years, longer than the average college player’s career. Are you suggesting that Brian Kelly leaving Notre Dame after 11 years is similar to a college football player leaving after 1?

You are making the point that the player and coach careers are comparable.

If a player had 50 year college career, then we would expect them to stay longer at the school. If a coach had 3-5 years to make their career, we would expect them to move to the best possible position to achieve that goal.

Think about it - Gordon is supposed to be this top dawg lawyer but he doesn't build in a clause in his NIL deal that gets him paid back on an NIL if/when a LSU player wants to transfer?

NIL money cannot be contingent on enrollment at any given institution.

Maybe if you're retarded. Otherwise, I'm not making that point at all.

It is my understanding that Gordon makes all of his NIL agreements for 3 months at a time, so he is covered.

It is correct that you can't make them contingent on performance or what school someone goes to, but there are ways to protect yourself. You can make the contracts short term, as above, or they often have required appearances mid-week. So, if you did transfer, you could not be there and you would be in violation of your contract.

was orginally against the portal. I supported the saying “loyality..u gave them ur word..4 yrs..ect” not no more..chase them dollars young fella
I've been there. Fans who claim their schools are bigger or more important than any individual player begin to whine because players choose to transfer or sit out . I don't understand the obsession with wanting to have so much control over these players.
