We had a chihuahua terrier mix as a child that kept the yard (several acres) cleared of snakes. She was awesome.
Wandered up to my nanny's house one Christmas Eve shivering and became a great pet

That's what I have right now.. He's a great little dog.. Healthy 14 years old.. Bad teeth and sheds like he is a St Bernard..
