Cocomo, my grandmother's mother was living in GA when Sherman's army came through burning and pillaging.

An army officer came into their house to run them all out. My grandmother's father was off serving in the Confederacy at the time.

On their wall hung a Masonic apron. The Union officer happened to be a Mason as well. He asked who owned the apron and my g-grandmother explained it was her husband's.

The Union officer ordered his men to cease and desist and not burn that house. Masonry was pretty strong back then.
