Philadelphia Trip Recommendations

The wife and I are planning on making our first trip to Philly for New Years. We will get there Friday evening. Have a free day on Saturday, go to the Saints game(yikes) on Sunday at 12, and going to the Pels game on Monday at 6.
Looking for any recommendations for Saturday, Sunday afternoon/evening, and monday morning-game time. We want to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Anything else you would recommend? Any attractions or foods?

The Liberty Bell is in a room with a giant window. Just go look at it from outside. Not really worth going through the whole tour IMO. Independence Hall is really cool though.
Definitely go see Reading Terminal and bring cash. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the best in the U.S. if you like museums.

this is an absolute must. I would recommend the roast pork sandwhich at Dinics, the Rachel at Herschels East Side deli and any of the confections at any of the Amish bakeries, especially the donuts. Enjoy!

Redding Terminal is definitely worth a walk through. If you're into art galleries, I highly, highly recommend going to the Barnes Museum. One of the greatest collections of post impressionist art in the world. If you're into Monet, Renoir, Matisse, Van Gosh, Picasso, Cezzane, etc., then this is the place for you.
As bonus material, I recommend watching the documentary The Art of the Steal, which is all about that museum and all the frickery that went on with it. It's very interesting.

Be very careful. Ask your hotel reps about your destinations
and activities and their safety issues. Armed guards at gas station I saw on the news last night. Sounds bad but probably will be fine. Beautiful city.

Rodin Museum has fantastic scupltures
My favorite is the Barnes Foundation which has some amazing paintings

The time I went, there was a line of 10-15 people at most. We went through “security”, and then we went see it up close and snapped a few photos. It took all of 10-15 mins. Better than seeing through a window with others standing in front of it.

Where would you recommend staying? Ive looked at a few hotels but didn't know the safest part of the city to stay in. I did see the armed guards at gas stations yesterday and I won't lie it had me a little worried lol.

I would recommend staying in the Rittenhouse square area. Safe, great bars and restaurants, easy access to metro. Walk to historical spots.
If you go too far east past midtown village and a few streets south around Locust and 11th/12th you are in the Gayborhood... just heads up. It's safe and clean but I had friends book in that area before and didn't realize.
Assume you are looking for the 30th-3rd, there are a couple options between rittenhouse and the liberty hall area such as Sonder The Witherspoon, warwick hotel etc. depending on budget. The nicest spots are pretty pricey for new years.

Appreciate the help. Yeah we are doing the 30th-3rd. I didn't realize about the Gayborhood lol. We are looking at the Double Tree at 237 South Broad St. Is that still a safe area? I see its between the Rittenhouse Square and the Gayborhood.

Rite house area is very nice. Great architecture and restaurants.
