Only a short-sighted idiot would allow a player to burn a redshirt for one meaningless game.
You never burn a potential extra full season for one meaningless game. This is common sense.
While some fans criticized, there was never a decision to be made from the player-perspective OR the program-perspective.

He’s not going to be here in 2025. The redshirt was and is pointless.

It was a selfish and shortsighted decision.
Look at it this way he isn't likely to be around for 4 years.
If he's as as good as HE thinks he is he'll jump to the NFL ASAP.
If he isn't there will likely be some hot shot new recruit that will beat him out and he'll jump into the portal.
Bowl games have meaning in that the players get extra practice to get better and the all important real time game on the line experience rather than mop up duty.
Look at it this way he isn't likely to be around for 4 years.

That’s just dumb.
If he didn’t start this year, he could have redshirted this year and have all options on the table.
