If it’s 3rd down and functions as a punt, then it lessens it, but that’s really just not a true statement.

Turnovers ALWAYS matter. Ask any coach. I seriously can’t believe someone is up voting that statement. It’s a lot harder to score when you don’t have the ball.

…on 3rd or 4th down maybe. Then they may just replace a punt. But punts flip 40-50 yards of field position. Interceptions…even deep ones…usually only go 20-30.
Turnovers matter.
