For the first time since the CFP started, there’s a legit chance that there will only be 1 conference champion in the playoff.

If LSU beats Georgia and K State beats TCU, the playoff would be Michigan, UGA, TCU, and OSU.

This is by far the most compelling argument for expanding the playoff and exactly the scenario that makes the move good for college football. An expansion was alway inevitable. It may end up that it needs to go beyond 12 at some point.
