I agree with you. But the answer isn't to go back to the fools that gave you Bush, McCain and Romney.
Desantis could have shunned that crowd and made your point. He could have embraced MAGA, told Ryan and Jeb and Rove to frick off.
Instead, he bought what they were selling which says a lot about him.

It's just a different flavor of the same thing. Desantis was made in politics, backed by politics and if he were to actually land the republican nomination for President, you'd see the same wilting that you saw with the likes of McCain, Romney and Ryan. These people ultimately play for the same team as Biden on the national level. Anything else is mostly theater.

Trump has zero chance to be reelected POTUS. He cannot win the states/areas that he needs to win up North and out West. Some people would like for the GOP to actually compete in the 2024 election.

Agreed 100%, Trump has no shot in flipping AZ/GA/WI back to the red column while DeSantis has a great shot of doing just that.

If Ron DeSantis embraces the Paul Ryan crowd over Trump, he will never be President. It's not going to happen.
If Desantis were smart, he would align with Trump and against the establishment.
The media is going to align him with Trump anyway.
If he takes the bait and battles Trump, he will seal his defeat even if he gets the nomination somehow.
He can't win without MAGA.
If Desantis aligns with Trump, I would support him for President in 2024, 2028, whenever.
If he embraces the Paul Ryan world view and battles Trump. I'm out. I'll never vote for another Bush, McCain or Romney. That's not winning.
