Is The Tiger "D" missing Pelini's "fire?

Just read an article on ESPN... didn't include the link... sorry... that said Pelini regrets his displaying his temper. Could it be that one reason the Defense is playing well is they don't have Pelini to light under a fire under them and no current assistant has replaced that?

they didnt play that well under pelini to be honest
the D has several problems
#1 hey lack playmakers
#2 they lack leadership
#3 predictable defensive play calling on the line puts excessive burden on our already young and experienced secondary

they have playmakers, the other two I would agree with.

Oh yeah , That fired up Pelini D gave up 50 in the FIRST HALF last week. That should alarm everyone ! Look what happens to this scheme without great talent.

Pelini's D never stifled a good offense. They had some good games (Miami in '05, Tenn in '06, and VT in '07) but typically against no better than average offenses. I think the talent did more for Pelini than he did for it.

I don't think fire is the problem. They're missing direction. They're not sure how to correct the problems.

No what I mean is Pelini 's D is getting smoked in Nebraska because the scheme stinks. Outstanding talent here masked some of those problems. We still have excellent talent but with just a slight falloff problems start popping up.
The players are fine. We need a change in DCO

Kentucky scored 27 points in regulation. We lost our best corner in that game.
Arkansas scored 28 points in regulation, only 7 at halftime. We also lost Beckwith and Dorsey later in the game.

Kentucky and Arkansas were not Georgia or Florida. We have had injuries this year and every other year also. I don't disagree that our D sucks this year.

Florida last year is not Florida this year. Florida had 4 losses last year. Also that one was in BR. Also our defensive talent was much better last year. Highsmith, Jackson, Zenon, Steltz >>>>>> DB's and LB's this year. And don't forget number of points given up by Lee. Those don't count against the D.

I know they're not like last year, but we're making every below average offense look all world this year. Georgia was a soft O, we just couldnt smash 'em in the mouth.

And with regards to talent, we have lots of it. We just cant get our players to play up to their talents, which is very contradicting to what LSU's Ds have been all about. We developed players with average talents into all american studs.

You can't "play" for a coach when you have 2 to choose from. Ditch the "co" Def coord next year and get ONE good one.

Craig Steltz, 4.6 speed, not a great range, average vertical, All American.
Ali Highsmith, undersized, 4.8 speed, nothing above average in his pro workouts, all American.
Chevis Jackson, a shutdown corner with 4.6 speed, that says it all. First team all SEC.
