I would look at DJI's Mini series. I have a DJI Mini 2 and love it. I had never flown a drone before getting it, and it has been easy to use. I watched a good YouTube video about it for beginners before using it, and then I was good to go.

Now, if your son is still pretty young, you may want to go a different direction. These are good quality drones. Even if you go a different direction, DJI might be something to look at if he wants to step up another level in the future.
