Any advice for an Oregon road trip

I took a trip down to Bend, OR two years ago around Easter. Sunny weather, really nice layout for the town along the river with shops, restaurants, and bars/breweries. Main focus for me was skiing at Mt. Bachelor but the whole area had a ton of outdoor activities to do.
Another trip went to Bandon Dunes along the coast for a golf weekend. Plenty of sand dune related activities, golf, and nice small towns along the coast.

How many days are we talking? There's a lot to see and do.
Eta....what time of year and where do you expect to enter and leave the state?

What parts of the state are you wanting to see? If you're around Bend, I'd recommend taking a drive down the Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway and/or driving down to Crater Lake.
If you're going to do it in the Fall/Winter and plan on crossing the Cascades, you'll definitely want to be in an AWD or 4WD vehicle with Winter tires.

We did this in early/mid October. Flew into Portland, drove to Canon Beach. Spent 2 nights at the Hallmark resort there, then spent next 3 days town hoping as we drove south. Near Canon Beach is Ecola State Park, that has a couple nice hikes. Beaches are nice and its easy to have a fire on them. The restaurants were hit or miss as far as being open, not sure if it was because we were there early in the week or it was a seasonal thing. We had an inconsistent marine layer the whole week, but it definitely didn't spoil anything. Pacific City was another night we spent and there's a big dune you can climb with nice views. Other spots have rockier beaches, or Devil's Churn (?) is a spot where you can walk down and out onto the volcanic rock as the wave crash near you. We found it a very cool experience. We had business in Corvallis, so we went there, then doubled back to coast, drove south from Florence and spent 2 nights at Bandon Dunes. Florence has some nice restaurants. Coos Bay seemed like it would be a good stop too. Some of the areas near Bandon you can rent dune buggies and sandboard. There is also whale watching out of Depoe Bay.
We loosely followed one of the itineraries we found online, just start looking at a few. If you like natural scenery, it really is a great roadtrip. There is another thread where I asked same question and responses were helpful.

There are a number of fantastic wineries near Newburg, south of Portland.

quote:I always go to Oregon for wine touring from south of Portland to McMinnville, instead of going to Napa. It's more rustic and quaint IMO. I've jumped on an ATV and toured the grapes at couple of small wineries with the owners on a whim. There's also some strange wines to can try (and buy) that don't fit a standard category. Stuff like that. Plus I love Pinot Noir.

Do not miss Crater Lake. I have been to all the National Parks out west and was blown away by Crater Lake. Plan a full day so you aren't rushed. Oregon is a beautiful place.

Silver falls state park is a great stop. The 10 waterfalls along the hike are pretty incredible.
