Me either, but my basic understanding is that it's actually sort of similar to the whole FTX scam shite going on now. These pictures, gifs, etc. are hyped up as being "worth" X amount of money, and then they are able to be bought/sold/traded by other people who value them. I put worth in quotes though, because while worth is derived by what someone is willing to pay for something (basically), they are also essentially worthless in that there is no inherent, real world value in them. It's basically one gigantic Ponzi scheme-type of deal where money can be made by some, and others eventually are left in the dark with useless (and worthless) NFTs.

People made money in the short term with these, which is commendable (I guess). But lots of people lost their asses too (which is always a consequence with shite like this obviously).
