Journalism has a lot of issues and a good chunk of it, IMHO, are caused by the mindset imposed that they should “make a difference” rather than “report the news.”
A lot of them tend to be miserable frickers because they are self-important in their views and get pissed when the rest of the population doesn’t follow their lead.

Probably similar to why so many people regret getting law degrees.
Bunch of people grew up on shows like "Law & Order" and whatnot, and think that being a lawyer is all courtrooms and high legal drama day-in and day-out.
Whereas I'm sure that lots of impressionable, young high schoolers see people like Tom Brokaw and Christiane Amanpour and journalists reporting from war zones and think to themselves "wow, I want to do that one day."
Except nobody told them that the odds of them doing journalism like that is next to nil.
So yeah...a bunch of people who wanted to "change the world" and "make a difference" and are now stuck doing the high school sports beat for the local paper.
Few people go into a trade or STEM field with that same head-in-the-clouds mindset.
Regret is the gap between expectations and reality.

Yeah that’s really a shame about journalism these days. Was once a very interesting and respected field.
