First, there are some really inspirational stories on here and thanks for sharing especially with the occasional OT a-hole comments. I practice addiction medicine now and AA can be very helpful but you might have to go to a few different meetings before you find the right one. An example is a 70 year old Lady started going to an AA meeting near her house and she said it was OK. We talked and she was going to the Project Lazarus on St Claude. Good Group but the majority are LGBQT so we found her one at a church a little farther away that she has done well in.

Theres also the one meeting you go to that you'll remember the rest of your life. I was in El Paso the night after that WalMart shooting in 2019 - those people were REALLY struggling to get through it emotionally and I was just a jackass trucker that ubered to their meeting oblivious to what happened. I still credit them for showing me the strength to get through events like that because a few months later is when I was diagnosed and felt like my life had been knocked off the rails. Stayed sober through it all, I'm at 4.5 years sober now.
