This is the correct answer. Do you guys not remember the Asik contract? If we traded a 1st for Turner or Poetl they'd probably get overpaid by a decent amount if we kept them.

Generally speaking when you trade a pick for an expiring player you're giving that player lots of leverage. Griff actually has a good track record with this getting decent deals for JV/CJ/Nance, but I think all 3 liked their fit and are at a stage in their career where that was more important than maximizing money.

I say upgrading Billy/Jax is the bigger(more realistic) priority right now.

Val is fine if he can accept the more limited role he’s getting. But bringing in a Olynyk/Holmes/Bryant/Bamba would help shore up the big position better than Jax/Billy, and be nice insurance for Nance.
