Absolutely that's why he left. You are lucky they had a window open as wide and as long as they did with Brees and the draft class of 2016. All of this was possible with pushing the salary cap down the road. Don't pretend like it wasn't a good run. Now the bill's due...



Blaming this on Payton is (simply put) an idiotic way to view this conundrum. Did Payton give away next year's first rounder? NOPE. In 10 years you and other "fans" will look fondly on the good years and instead complain about grocery stores not having enough paper bags in stock to handle demand.

Payton should be blamed for his role in advising Loomis and his people on who he needed and for many if the busts tgry btought in. We will never know exactly who made some if they decisions, but you know Payton had a big role here.
