No. No amateur athlete should ever be booed by his home crowd, based on his performance (or even for lack of effort, because that's too subjective). Booing unsportsmanlike conduct is Okay, as is booing the opposing team, (any) coaches, refereeing, etc. Sometimes booing your own coaches (which is fine by me, they're grown, professional, well-paid guys) is sometimes dicey, because it can be misinterpreted, but in the usual circumstances, it's okay - when a FG or punt is called and the crowd wants to go for it on 4th (and it's obvious it's the call), or for getting too conservative at the end of a game (players usually recognize when the playcalling is being booed).

Also, it's almost always a QB that has to take booing, at least at LSU. Nobody is booing our DBs and LBs who have struggled mightily in coverage this year. Nobody is booing our much-heralded DL, that is failing to get the containment and QB pressure to which we have all grown accustomed. No, everybody wants to get down on a RSFR QB because he's playing like a very talented redshirt freshman instead of a fifth year senior.

Go ahead and tell yourself it's your "right" as fan to boo the kid. That doesn't make it "right" in my book.

You don't boo because it is tacky. Period. But if you need another reason, don't boo because it is completely counterproductive. Think about what you are doing for a second. You are booing someone because he is performing poorly, but all that booing is going to do is increase the pressure on the kid and demoralize his entire team. You aren't helping things at all. Fans who boo remind me of children who throw temper tantrums.

When the team does well. SIT YOUR BOOING A$$ DOWN AND STFU
